One-Of-A-Kind Shimapku Juniper 'Kishu'
Juniper Shimpaku 'Kishu' is a type of juniper tree that is known for its beauty and unique characteristics. It is often used in bonsai cultivation because of its small size and ability to withstand frequent pruning and shaping.
The tree underwent styling in December 2023 and was repotted in Spring 2024. It stands as an aged specimen with a rich history. Years ago, the foliage of Kishu was skillfully grafted onto a Juniper Prostrata trunk, resulting in its distinctive, gnarled appearance. This practice, common among professionals, has yielded a remarkable bonsai, now available in our nursery.
Its attractive foliage is why people love Kishu, although some prefer the Itoigawa. To a novice, they are difficult to distinguish, but we have both. Shimpkau, in general, has small, needle-like leaves that are arranged in whorls around the branches, giving it a dense and compact appearance.
